Big Waves

This photo was also chosen to use in my digital portfolio. I took this in Aruba where one side of the island is beautiful beaches, while the other is enormous cliffs and huge rocks. The waves were incredible; the water would splash all the way up the cliffs and over people standing there. The wind is very strong as well, so capturing this image was a little challenging. I was able to cover my lens and not get water all over it or damage my camera and I eventually managed to brace myself to avoid camera shake. All in all I’m pleased with what I was able to get as a result.DSC_0818

A Cowboy & His Horse

For my digital photography class we have to put together a portfolio and one of the requirements is to scan at least 4 film photos. I picked this photo because working with film definitely teaches you to concentrate more and slow down. You really have to take your time and think about what you are doing. When I took this photo, I had just finished getting things into place in the frame and this moment just happened to happen. I’m glad I was able to capture it, I think it truly shows the bond a person can develop with an animal.

Shooting

For my Small Format class, we had an assignment to shoot an “On location portrait” of someone and “their sound.” I chose to shoot someone shooting a gun. It’s kind of weird saying I shot someone who was shooting. Once I got some portraits, I wanted to change things up a little. I had an idea in my mind to take a photo looking down the barrel, but I wasn’t pleased with the background. I then moved to the side a little and loved the lighting. You may not be able to see his face, but I feel like the picture still has a story behind it.LovedayA_OLP_B

The Bird is the Word

Haven’t you heard the bird is the word? I seen this and had to take a picture. I love how the columns line up and there’s birds on every one. This picture seems simplistic, but its not every day you walk up on a scene like this. There’s only one bird on the closest column which stands out and the color tones in the water are stunning to me. I think the blues and the black and white birds come together nicely to make this picture pop.DSC_0330

Stand Out

For an assignment in my Product Lighting class, we had to shoot an object using only the light that was available to us and no electronic powered sources. I chose to use window light because I find it absolutely beautiful. I used a bouquet of white roses and stuck a red one in the middle to make it stand out and for a little charm, I draped a string of pearls around it. I’m very pleased with it and I believe it applies the meaning to “Stand out” from others.lovedaya_avail_a

Day at the Zoo

Here in Asheboro, NC our biggest attraction is the massive zoo. People from all over come to visit it, but living near it makes it easy to take for granted. As a child we used to go to zoos and aquariums all the time and I loved it. Just the other day, my sister and I decided to just up and go. Even though it was super hot, we still had a good time and got some good laughs together. While we were there, we found out you can feed the giraffes now and it was so much fun. We fed this little guy here._DSC4930

Synchronized

_DSC3192While I was at the Pro National race in Tennessee, I captured this image. The reason this image stands out to me is because the two riders race for the same team, which explains why they look almost identical. Out of all the riders on the track, these two just happened to be side by side and riding over the jump at the same time. I also like it because the rider on the left is looking at the rider on the right and the rider on the right looks like he’s looking down at me. Out of all the pictures I took, this is definitely a unique shot that not everyone has the chance of capturing.

Motocross- Pro Nationals

hgfgLast weekend, I went to Tennessee for the Pro Nationals and took a lot of pics. Photographing motocross is addicting; I never once wanted to put my camera down. You never know when you could miss a great shot. Deciding on a photo to upload to my blog was challenging, there’s so many to choose from. This photo was taken when the race just started and they were heading around the first turn. When they’re going around the first turn it’s always intense because everyone is trying to pass and get in the lead, which makes for some really great shots! Other than getting sunburned, I had an awesome time and will definitely continue to attend more races.
